Instead of a memorial stone

This website is dedicated to Marcus (Max) Worms, my grandfather. I never knew him, because he was one of the many victims of World War II. In fact a large part of my family was murdered. One of many horrific stories. His grave is unknown. Hence this website, to commemorate the man I never knew, but with who I feel strongly connected.

The core of the website are twelve letters, that my grandfather wrote in the summer of 1942. Eleven from prison in Arnhem, the last one from Westerbork. In the menu you can select the letter you want to read.

Invitation
Finally I went to Poland, that was on my wish list for a long time. And I went with someone who studied World War II and the sjoa. In that September week we visited many important places, we got a lot of information, and I did a memorial for my grandfather and my great grandmother. Many things about the trip you can already read on this website. The week brought me more than I could dream. For example: I was asked by the director of the nearby museum to return in October and reveal a commemorating plate for the victims of camp in St. Annaberg.

Archives
With the help of an internet friend, that I finally met in person during my trip, I have been able to send letters in Polish to organizations that still have archives. Polish law dictates that the archives must be closed for 80 years. Except for next of kin. The help is much appreciated! I can live with St. Annaberg as the last place of which I’m sure that my grandfather was there. But who knows… who knows… Maybe finally some more informatie will come to the surface.
